Applications Wanted for Rent Review Advisory Committee

The Rent Review Advisory Committee (RRAC) was established in 1979 in response to citizens’ complaints about substantial rent increases, and since that time has successfully mediated more than 230 cases of rental increases.  At the meeting, Committee members listen to the renter’s and owner’s views about the rent increase and discuss whether the amount is fair under all the circumstances. The Committee tailors its recommendation to fit each specific case.

The Committee is made up of 7 volunteers: 3 owners, 3 renters, and 1 neutral homeowner. Members are appointed by the Mayor with confirmation by the City Council. The Committee meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, if there is business to conduct (or on Wednesday if Monday is a holiday).  Currently there are two vacancies for a tenant (renter) on the RRAC, but anyone interested in serving is encouraged to apply, and applications will be kept on file to fill any future vacancies.

Please click here for the RRAC application or call the City Clerk’s office at (510) 747-4800 to have an application mailed to you. (05/10)
